Joining the Secret Service, Office of Protective Operations, allows you to serve as a Lead Investigative Protection Officer. This position supports an integrated protective and investigative mission(s) which plans, directs, coordinates, and implements domestic and international protective and investigative policies, programs and operations of the Secret Service. Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime is additional compensation which may be paid up to 25% of the base salary.
To qualify for the grade GS-12 level you must possess one year of specialized experience at the grade GS-11 level performing duties such as: providing guidance and direction to team members; assigning and monitoring work performance; implementing protective instructions and procedures; planning logistics for protective services and transportation; covering a designated security post; preparing reports and presentations to senior level management on protective services and investigation activities; and, providing technical advice and guidance regarding protection and law enforcement operations. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Time-in-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service on a non-temporary appointment. Applicants must provide a copy of their SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action), that should include their position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). Please note: If you are applying for a higher grade than the grade that you currently hold and the SF-50 you submit to support your eligibility claim has an effective date within the past year, it will not clearly show that you meet the one-year time-in-grade requirement. Be sure to provide an additional SF-50 which clearly demonstrates you meet the time-in-grade requirements (appropriate SF-50s include Promotions, Within Rate/Grade Increases (WRI/WGI), and appointment/conversion SF-50s with an effective date more than one-year old). Qualification AND Eligibility Requirements Must Be Met: The qualification and eligibility requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Protective Driving Operations Course (PODC): Applicants are required to successfully complete the Protective Driving Operations Course (PODC) to remain in this position. Failure to pass PODC will result in reassignment to another position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
This Lead Investigative Protection Officer position starts at $101,401.00 (GS-12, Step-1), with potential to $131,826.00 (GS-12, Step-10). The selectee will serve as Lead Investigative Protection Officer in the Office of Protective Operations, Vice Presidential Protective Division. Typical work assignments include: Assigning, overseeing, reviewing work assignments; ensuring organizational plans, missions, and vision are communicated and integrated in team objectives and work plans. Provides instruction on specific-job techniques, scheduling formal training and advising employees on directives, policies, and procedures. Ensures the efficient, timely, and effective performance of work and monitoring/tracking assignments to assure assignments are within established guidelines. Provides supervisor with feedback on team member performance and accomplishments; prepares and presents work-related information to supervisor. Covers a designated security post implementing protective instructions and procedures. Determines vulnerable areas and initiates physical security inspections to determine compliance with established requirements. Performs duties concerned with the physical protection of personnel, facilities and assets. Serves as functional expert providing oversight, technical, and procedural guidance and ensuring that proper protective and/or investigatory guidelines are followed. Prepares reports and presentations to senior level management on protective service and investigative activities. Prepares physical security reports outlining deficient areas.
