About the Position: This position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Within the Director for Medicine in the Department of Medicine. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting intake procedures; utilizing GENESIS Military Electronic Record Systems to check patients into clinic and update patient data; assisting physicians in exam rooms; setting up and cleaning exam rooms before and after patient visit. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as nursing, health care, health technician or related health care directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred but not required.
Conduct intake procedures.
Take and record vital signs.
Provide pretreatment, treatment and post treatment evaluation of patients.
Assist physicians in exam rooms.
Perform routine procedures within the scope of practice to include sterile dressing application, enemas, suture/staple application and removal.
Update patient medical records.
Ensure proper computer entry of patient and data and equipment settings.
Provide technical guidance for medical support assistants and Red Cross volunteers.
Ensure the sterile condition and adequacy of supplies in patient care areas and storage rooms.
Dispose of outdated and expired medications/vaccines and replenish.
