What are we looking for? Ability to work independently and to determine what type of equipment is needed at each part of each sequence to process a variety of different fabrics. Ability to identify defective or malfunctioning parts by visual inspection and from operational sound. Ability to read and follow directions on labels affixed to chemicals, detergents and on Safety Data Sheets. Ability to read and follow operating instructions on assigned equipment.
What to Expect? Responsible for sorting soiled laundry items by type, color, fabric, etc., in preparation to launder. Responsible for the servicing of the equipment, keeping it clean and safe by performing operator's preventive maintenance. May prepare requests to replenish supplies sufficiently in advance to ensure adequate stock is always on hand. Maintains up-dated files on Material Safety Data Sheets on all chemicals and hazardous materials used Continuous standing, walking, stooping, lifting, and bending. Constant movement of arms and hands. Frequently pushes carts loaded with dirty laundry and/or trash. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Work area may be uncomfortably warm and noisy. May be exposed to bruises, strains, sprains, and skin irritations from use of strong cleaning solutions. Care is required to avoid injuries. May be required to wear protective masks, gloves. The work is primarily performed indoors, which has adequate heat, light and ventilation; however, some duties required are outside and will expose incumbent to heat, cold, and varying types of weather. This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (nature or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
