You will serve as a Materials Handler of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including the ability to perform the work of a Materials Handler as demonstrated by experience receiving, issuing, handling, selecting and preparing for shipment, segregating, storing, stowing, inventorying, and documenting the movement and storage of supplies, equipment, and materials, in accordance with prescribed regulations; performing inspections of incoming shipments to check for damage; documenting discrepancies; reading shipping and tracking documents; using computer systems and scanning devices to track material; performing the consolidation, rotation, or relocation of stored items, as directed; complying with prescribed proper handling and storage procedures; assisting in laying out storage space and establish item and material locations providing for maximum space utilization; performing the rotation, or relocation of stored items, as directed; operating motor vehicles, forklifts and material handling equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. You will perform the full range of material handling and warehousing functions.
You will ship, receive, store, segregate, and inventory controlled (hazardous and non-hazardous) materials.
You will read and interpret shipping documents and other documentation used to move, store, and track materials.
You will operate motor vehicles, forklifts, and other Material Handling Equipment.
You will work with automated supply and/or inventory systems.
You will pick and prepare materials for local issue or shipment.
You will follow safety protocols and guidelines in a warehouse environment.
