Job Description:

This position is in the Dental Department at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility. The primary purpose of this position is to manage and supervise the Dental Department in the health center and to provide professional dental care in connection with the diagnostic treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures.
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirement Education: Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA), or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) AND possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/model for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. OR Complete a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.

Performs restoration and cavities with standard and prescribed materials. Administers local anesthesia. Perform single and multiple extractions of teeth and treats periodontal disease. Establishes relationships with tribal groups, clinical staff and IHS personnel to facilitate(s) appropriate health care provisions. Ensures that department expenditures, supplies and equipment are within allocated budget; ensures compliance with accreditation requirements; and provides professional dental administrative activities for assessing planning and developing for dental services. Provides supervision to dental staff by assigning and evaluating work, prepares performance plans, interviews employees for positions, recommends appointment promotion or reassignment, resolves employee complaints, effects minor disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and identifies training needs.
