Job Description:

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Education Department, Museum Learning and Programs. National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), Under Secretary for Museums and Culture (USMC) Smithsonian Institution (SI).
Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as providing program support for educators, adults, children and families in a museum, educational, or cultural setting; the ability to manage tasks through the use of a variety of software systems, including Microsoft, Excel, etc., developing and tracking budget, creating event memos, checklists, and procedures to produce PD and teacher programs in the NMAI - DC museum. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. The Education Program Assistant supports the work of the Education unit, which produces content and Professional Development (PD) and teacher programs as part of a national educational initiative, Native Knowledge 360° (NK360°). In this position, you will: Create, develop, and produce Professional Development (PD) in support of NK360° content. Review schedules, maintain internal and external calendars and provide information to Smithsonian sources, external sources and the general public as needed. Oversee purchasing and contracting work of staff working on NK360° related programs, serves as contract officer's technical representative (COTR). Oversee and conduct Requests for Quotes (RFQ's), develop statements of work and collaborate with NMAI's Administrative office and Smithsonian's Office of contracting. Use appropriate automated systems, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) to develop program related materials and develop/monitor budgets, procurement and contracts.
