To qualify for a Secretary (Office Automation), your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Serves as personal assistant to Director-level personnel and acts as liaison between senior officials and within the organization. Manages Director-level appointments and schedules. Screens all calls, visitors, and incoming/outgoing correspondence on business involving established policies or routine matters without referring to higher-level authority. B. Education Substitution: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. C. Typing Proficiency Requirement: Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Exercise exclusive appointment control for the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director.
Independently arranges for staff member attendance at meetings and other functions which do not require the Executive Director's or Deputy Executive Director's presence.
Screens all calls and visitors, answering most questions and completing most business involving established policy or routine matters without referring people to the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director.
Receives correspondence for leadership, replying to or appropriately routing for attention and follow-up. Screens prepared correspondence for clarity, adherence to preferred terminology, completeness, format, grammatical and procedural correctness.
Acts as intermediary for the Executive Director/Deputy Executive Director in transmitting policy changes to the MSCs; transmits instructions for various regulatory matters or projects pending throughout DLA.
Acts as intermediary for the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director in transmitting policy changes, instructions, and projects across the DLA Logistics Operations divisions and regions.
Performs statistical data research required as needed to respond to immediate Congressional or other investigative action requests.
Summarizes lengthy communications, determines what is specifically needed, and from whom it can be obtained, and compiles required material for higher-level authorities.
