The incumbent is a member of Engineering Services which is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the Energy Plants Industrial Systems to include Steam Boilers and Centrifugal chillers.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/09/2025. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Frequently works in confined areas inside and around boilers and support equipment, i.e., auxiliary equipment's, pumps, motors, fans, cooling towers, air handlers, roof, crawl spaces, ladders, lifts, and ceilings. Work requires moderate physical effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching. Frequently lifts and carries boiler parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment. Working Conditions: The employee typically works indoors. Occasionally works outside for short periods or longer. When working outside is subject to prevailing weather conditions and works on catwalks and ladders. The employee is subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating machinery, soot, water, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes in the work area. The worker is subject to cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from chemicals, caustics, hot water, steam, and contact with pipes and boilers. The possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts, and scrapes are common to this line of work.
Responsible for the safe operation of the Energy Plants Industrial equipment and the monitoring of the VAMC's Building Automation System. The Incumbent will also consist of intermittent requests to utilize Building Automation Systems (BAS) to navigate through the systems control points for mechanical space's, Main Hospitals patient rooms, offices, and common areas to accomplish requests for temperature changes, starting and stopping remote industrial equipment's, and the verification of equipment status throughout the facility. Responsible for communicating all situations with Supervisors, Head Nurse on Duty (NOD) and all maintenance personnel. This Incumbent requires a strong ability to log incidents or situations that may need reviewing and the ability to direct and consult request from hospital personnel in a professional manner. Utilize great customer service, Operations of Industrial Equipment's, keeping work areas and surrounding areas clean of any hazards by using infectious control policies and regulations accomplishing maintenance duties on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
