This position is located with the Division of Quality Management at various locations with the Navajo Area Indian Health Service. The primary purpose of the position is to manage and implement the Infection Control Program. Providing clinical leadership, developing plans for the services and provides interface between the organizational manager and clinicians.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Working knowledge of regulatory agency standards on Infection Control and Prevention issues, including The Joint Commission standards, Centers of Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and Nursing Professional recommendations from organizations. This includes knowledge of educational and training principles, techniques and practices related to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of infection control in-services, annual infection prevention training, employee orientation programs and must communicate, verbally and in writing to conduct presentations and prepare written reports. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Provides leadership in the ongoing review and development of clinical practice in compliance to Infection Control regulations and by functioning as an expert clinician and role model in the clinical setting. Develops new policies and procedures utilizing current literature and in compliance with federal, state and other regulatory standards. Develops and implement plan of action to introduce new/revise policies and procedures, to all staff. Monitors and documents surveillance/performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with the standards by making regular scheduled and impromptu rounds in addition to the tracer rounds to assure staff is up-to-date and compliant with infection prevention issues. Assures that infection surveillance program plans are in compliance with Joint Commission, Occupational Safety Health Association (OSHA), Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS), Indian Health Services and other agency standard policies and procedures.
