This is a full-time position with the Marshal's Office at the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C. Must be knowledgeable of industrial and governmental security lock and key control programs. Extensive knowledge of hardware specifications, electro-mechanical hardware (systems and components) and system installation and purchasing is required. Must have ability to decipher commercially manufactured locking devices and understand the working interrelationships with a variety of equipment such as monitors, alarms, timing mechanisms and sensors, which make up security or surveillance systems. Must have knowledge in turning, milling, drilling, shaping, and grinding parts to precise specifications. Must have experience in machining and creating parts and preparing substrates for installation of hardware; and experience in equipment maintenance, and supply/inventory processes. Demonstrate leadership abilities. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 45 pounds. Experience in dealing with high-level government officials and other dignitaries is required.
The Locksmith/Machinist is primarily responsible for installing, fabricating, repairing, rebuilding, maintaining, and servicing all types of mechanical locking devices. Responsible for making keys, re-pinning cylinders or pin tumbler locks, and opening locks with or without keys including built-in and padlock combination locks. This position requires an onsite presence and some on call availability. Performs other duties as assigned to support the regular operations of the Court.
