Job Description:

This position is located in the Financial Operations Branch of the Budget and Finance Division of the District of Columbia Courts. The Budget and Finance Division is responsible for all financial aspects of the D.C. Courts. The Accounting Technician will implement administrative and technical functions involved in the disbursement of funds for the D.C. Courts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED certificate plus three (3) years of experience in accounting tasks, including processing payments and bookkeeping, in an office environment. General knowledge of accounting practices, methods, and techniques. General knowledge of accounting systems. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency. Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Establishes and maintains subsidiary ledgers to provide accountability and control by sub-program and purchase order. Ensures adequate funding levels for all obligations in accordance with authorized contractual agreements. Initiates vouchers (manual and electronic) for payment under court ordered disbursements, commercial purchases, contracts, lease agreements, or D.C. Court programs. Reviews and compares vendor invoices against documentation to ensure proper and adequate support for payment. Analyzes invoices and reimbursements for goods and services incurred or rendered to ensure compliance with D.C. Court rules, statutes, operating procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Assists in maintaining automated accounting systems based on applicable policies and procedures. Independently develops and generates schedules and reports detailing monthly expenditures and analysis of payments as requested.
