This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. (NOTE: Prior to 2005 ACPE accredited both baccalaureate and Doctor of Pharmacy terminal degree programs; today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEF iBT). Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Grade Determinations: To be creditable, the experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with professional pharmacy practice. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. Meets criteria to work under a scope of practice 1. This position involves: Must be in overall good health. The work requires standing, walking, moderate lifting and carrying of items. Duties to include but not limited to: A. Clinical - Direct Patient Care Activities that require a scope of practice Core functions include face-to-face and virtual encounter with referred patients, for comprehensive medication management in practice areas identified in their individual scope of practice. Follows-up with patients on lab or test results to discuss the plan of therapy, i.e. changes in medication therapy, monitoring, and additional testing requirements. Orders, performs, reviews, and analyzes appropriate laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies necessary to monitor and support the patient's drug therapy. B. Clinical - Indirect Patient Care Activities Promotes and monitors compliance with established drug therapy guidelines. Works with providers to ensure compliance with national, VISN, and local initiatives. Monitor and report drug errors, adverse drug reactions, allergies, and patient compliance issues. Documents findings per facility procedures. C. Administrative Functions Participates in medication use evaluations activities, audits or quality management monitoring as designated by supervisor. Informs clinical coordinator of changes in nature of assigned duties which could affect clinical activities. Performs at least one hospital committee assignment per year, or attends professional meeting and presents a report to the facility's professional staff and documents committee contribution or impact of meeting. D. Educational Functions Serves as a clinical pharmacy preceptor for Doctor of Pharmacy students from the appropriate affiliated Schools/Colleges of Pharmacy. Serves as a preceptor for PharmD residents and maintains a sustained record of contribution and commitment to pharmacy, as defined by ASHP. Provides formal education and clinical education in the area of expertise to pharmacists in training. Prepares and presents educational lectures related to his/her area of practice to variety of disciplines as requested. E. Research Demonstrates knowledge of the design, conduct, and interpretation of controlled clinical drug trials or other research related to his/her practice area as applicable. Serves as preceptor of resident's research projects as assigned In cooperation with clinical section staff and other health professionals, collects and analyzes data related to ongoing clinical programs and presents it either at national meetings or publishes it in professionally representative publications. F. Technical Skills Compound or prepare pharmaceutical products per facility guidance Understand and interpret clinical and technical issues brought to the attention of the individual. Independently utilize an electronic healthcare record including but not limited do recording encounter documentation, entering medication or lab orders, and updating medication lists/allergies.
