Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, New Orleans Sector, located in New Orleans, LA. Additional selections may be made to include other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.
Experience: You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Developing, analyzing, and modifying internal administrative policies, procedures, and manuals. Composing and/or reviewing all correspondence written for the manager to include letters, memoranda, briefing materials, and talking points. Developing and conducting periodic training. Conducting briefings on projects and sensitive programmatic issues. Preparing a variety of reports utilizing various databases and automated systems NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Education Substitution: Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree from an accredited college or university, a doctoral degree and or LL.M., if related, that demonstrates the skills necessary to do the work. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify at grade GS-11. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 05/29/2025. This position allows you to perform a full range of administrative, research, and analytical duties, as well as a variety of liaison activities and special assignments related to the missions and functions in support of the Mission Readiness Operations Division. This position starts at a salary of $73,939.00 (GS-11, Step 1) to $96,116.00 (GS-11, Step 10). As a Staff Assistant, you will be performing a full range of administrative, research and analytical duties, special assignments, related to the missions and functions of the office. In addition, overseeing the management and administrative operations of sector headquarters. Your duties and responsibilities will include: Responding to administrative and programmatic problems brought to the attention of the manager. Relieving the manager of unnecessary interruptions and demands on their time by handling matters of a general nature. Coordinating a wide spectrum of projects within the office including conducting research on administrative projects, analysis of data to ensure relevant data is present, and providing comprehensive report. Monitoring office administrative functions, transactions, and preparing a variety of reports utilizing various databases and automated systems. Providing information and serving as a source of referral to the proper official or other agencies. Being responsible for ensuring that issues or problems are addressed by subordinate offices and expedite as necessary. Arranging for the preparation of briefing materials, talking points, and executive summaries to be viewed by the manager. Working closely with members of the manager's staff and with others outside the office to track projects and ensure implementation dates are met.
