Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Chicago, Field Office, Mission Support Division, location Negotiable After Selection- You must choose one of the following locations. Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Conducting studies concerning organization-wide and/or government-wide management issues. Providing authoritative advice and guidance to points of contact at agency headquarters and in the field. Overseeing and evaluating complex administrative services to the field, employees, and other customers pertaining to budget, logistics, procurement, and quality assurance programs. Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy. Communicating with internal components in order to obtain, relay, summarize, and translate guidance and information. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 06/10/2025. This position will allow you to use your expertise in administration to lead in the development and implementation of key support processes for the organization. Apply for this exciting opportunity to strengthen the Department's ability to protect the homeland by advising on key support processes such as quality assurance, budget, logistics, procurement, and workforce management and training. This position starts at a salary of $124,531.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $161,889.00 (GS-14, Step 10). Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection. To meet agency needs, this position will be filled on a temporary basis not-to-exceed (NTE) one (1) year, with possible extension(s) for an additional one (1) year, for a total of three (3) years in 1-year increments. You may be returned, at any time, to the position from which temporarily promoted, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay, and that the return is not subject to the procedures found in 5 C.F.R. ยง 351, 432, 752, and 771. At management's discretion, you may be permanently promoted to this position without further competition. In this Supervisory Mission Support Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals managing a full range of mission support services and procedures. Typical work assignments include: Providing a combined strategy of industry partnerships, advanced information, and effective review to ensure implementation of national financial policies and integration with other operational support processes. Directing and managing a myriad of mission support related programs designed to oversee the execution of budget, facilities, logistics, procurement and quality assurance programs. Serving as the liaison with the Office of Human Resources Management (HRM), including Labor and Employee Relations (LER), and Public Affairs programs in order to coordinate the consultation, implementation, and development of workforce management issue. Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy. Establishing and recommending performance standards, discussing progress toward performance goals, and identifying areas that need improvement.
