Job Description:

This position is located in Police Services (Dispatch) within the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. The primary purpose of the position is to lead a team of Security Assistants responsible for monitoring physical security equipment and systems.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: knowledge of security or law enforcement objectives and programs; overseeing, leading, and balancing the workload of staff; carrying out support tasks related to law enforcement and security administration; monitoring and responding to physical alarm systems and security cameras; dispatching officers; monitoring computers for video surveillance; and maintaining reports and logs. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsible for leading a team of a minimum of three Security Assistant GS-0086-05 positions. Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, provides advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assists the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. Responsible for identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees; adjusts the workload in accordance with established priorities and skill levels to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensures that each employee is kept busy. Trains or arranges for the training necessary for accomplishment of individual and team tasks. Monitors and reports on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the supervisor's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. Serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator. Maintains program and administrative reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and makes available policies, procedures and written instructions from the supervisor; maintains current knowledge to answer questions from team members on procedures, policies, directives, etc. Report to the supervisor periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs. Recommends actions such as: assignments, reassignments, promotions, tour of duty changes, etc. Other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Full-time, Rotating tour to include weekends and holidays Position Description Title/PD#: Lead Security Assistant - Dispatch/PD99857S Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working on off-tours, rotating shifts or regular overtime may be required.
