This position is responsible for installing, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and testing, new and existing electrical wires, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The Electrician may complete repairs and installations from ladder, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places. This requires electrical workers to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and, less often, up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, may lift or move with assistance, moderately heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds. The work is performed both inside and outside. Electricians may be required to make repairs and installation in bad weather, in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet; manholes of 30 feet deep, and occasionally be exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and rotary devices such as electrical motors. Electricians are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises and occasionally work in areas requiring the use of respirators. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay out the routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls; Interprets basic electronic terms and symbols when reading technical/system diagrams and schematics; Applies a variety of electrical formulas, tables, charts, and color codes in order to mount, ground and install wiring and equipment for electrical/electronic systems; Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings and connections, and installs wiring couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices; Inspects electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers; Identifies electrical problems using a variety of testing devices; Interprets and applies state and local building regulations based on the National Electrical Code; Traces hard-to-locate defects or problems associated with the completion of repairs and installations; Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. Occasional shift work coverage is required 7 days a week between 6:00pm - 6:00am as needed.
