Job Description:
You will serve as a Staff Curator (Museum Management) of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.
There is a Basic Requirement to hold a GS-1015 position the Federal Service. Details can be found in the "Education" section of this announcement. GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirements and Selective Placement Factor for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: Providing collections management work for a collection in a historical museum or cultural setting including acquiring, managing, and preserving collections Using and maintaining a collections information system and database. Researching databases, accession records, technical publications, books, and manuscripts to aid in answering questions about artifact historical validity, identification, and provenance in the collection. Conducting directed research in support of historical museum's collections, collections management practices, exhibitions, and other museum related projects. Oversee the artifact acquisition process, including managing donations, determining artifact authenticity, and managing the Collection Committee process.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with potential donors through effective communication, providing guidance, and conveying Collection Committee decisions.
Ensure all acquisitions and deaccessions comply with relevant laws and regulations, including copyright, and prepare all necessary legal documentation.
Conduct thorough research to verify the authenticity and historical significance of proposed donations, leveraging various resources.
Evaluate proposed donations against existing collections to determine their value and need within the NHHC enterprise.
Manage the deaccession process, including staff guidance, enterprise-wide review, and coordination with potential transfer entities.
Maintain accurate and organized records of all acquisitions, deaccessions, and transfers, ensuring compliance with recordkeeping standards.
Oversee the creation and maintenance of accession entries and object records within the Department of Navy Heritage Asset Management Database (DONHAMS).
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Curator Branch staff, Navy museums, and other collecting organizations.
Effectively manage multiple acquisition and deaccession projects simultaneously, ensuring timely progress and completion.
