The primary purpose of the position is the operation and maintenance of drinking water and wastewater systems throughout the park. Provide secondary treatment of wastewater in accordance with Federal, state, and/or local regulations, as well as Departmental and Bureau level policy. Assists in the operation of the Membrane Bioreactor wastewater treatment plant with disinfection by liquid chlorination. Required to keep accurate logs on the various phases of operation, plant condition(s), and laboratory test results. Collect water samples and conduct extensive testing to determine such things as particulates, acidity, or alkalinity, chloring residual, biochemical oxygen demand, suspended and dissolved solids, and dissolved oxygen. Incumbent must determine seriousness when issues arise and decide whether to shut down the plant until repairs can be made. Perform routine operator maintenance and determines what repairs are required through consultation, who to notify to get repairs accomplished, etc. Follow scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and routine servicing of mechanical equipment such as valves, compressors, motors, centrifugal, macerator, and air lift pumps, automatic controls such as electrical relays, time delay switches, and pump start-stop switches.
