Job Description:

This position is part of the Tuba City Boarding School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Education Specialist you will be responsible for collaborating, planning, compliance, and oversight for coordination/correlation of supplemental and regular school programs. This position is NOT eligible for telework or remote/virtual work. The Bureau of Indian Education has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework (or virtual work) under any circumstances.
Who May Apply: Applicants with Indian Preference All U.S. Citizens Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Required Education, Experience and Certification: Education: Bachelor's degree in appropriate education field (or related areas such as those required under Public Law 95-142) with a minimum of 12 semester hours of course work in particular area of specialization. In absence of identified area of specialization, the minimum coursework must be in education theories, methodologies, and/or practicum. Applicants must provide copies of official or unofficial transcripts that identify student name, school name, and degree conferred. Applicants must NOT submit transcripts directly received from colleges or universities as these digital PDF files are either portfolios or encrypted with restrictive permissions. AND Experience: (2) Years of related experience. Qualifying experience is teaching experience or other professional education experience related to the position. Specialist is required to be current in all pertinent education legal issues relative to the area of specialty. Certification: Must also possess State certification appropriate to the education/topic field. Emergency and provisional certificates may be accepted under the conditions that the State certification authority has issued. Applicants MUST submit a copy of current and valid professional certification or licensure with application package or will be rated ineligible. It must reflect legal name, issue date, expiration date, and endorsements (as applicable). DODEA certifications are NOT acceptable substitutes for State certification Appropriate topic/field may be identified by parenthetical to the position title; in absence of parenthetical the certification must be in education appropriate for primary or secondary schools. Basis of Rating: All applicants for this position will be rated and ranked based upon the extent and quality of their experience, training and/or education as reflected in the assessment questionnaire. Applicants will be further evaluated according to the degree to which they possess or have the potential to acquire knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics as listed below. As a Education Specialist CY-1710-5, your typical work assignments may include the following: Conducts individual and group conferences to discuss findings, receive recommendations, and provide guidance in the implementation of project activities. Conducts staff meetings to inform staff of project requirements, discuss problems, assess needs, and develop effective proposals. Directs, coordinates, administers, and evaluates the school programs. Assures that required evaluations are completed and required reports are prepared for review. Conducts the annual needs assessment. Writes new proposals and modifies the existing programs. Assures effective use of funds and personnel. Arranges in-service for parents and includes parental input in the annual needs assessment. Takes steps to promote parental involvement in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the school programs. Distributes information regarding the programs to the staff, students, and community. Coordinates and provides a variety of training for both professional and paraprofessional staff. By special assignment, writes new proposals for federal and private sources, to address needs revealed by the needs assessments. Assures that all special projects at the school are fiscally self-sustaining. Maintains and provides documentation and data required by the projects, i.e.., testing results, budgets, reports, regulations, and directives.
