The primary purpose of this position is to be the Supervisor for the Plumbing/Machine Shop.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work progress, inspections and supervision requires regular and recurring exertion including walking, standing, bending, climbing, etc. Management and administrative work are typically performed in an office and plant environment. Incumbent must have good vision and dexterity to be able to explain complex procedures to staff. Must be capable of supervising and performing work that is performed outside in inclement weather or in areas that are very hot, cold, or unventilated, such as catwalks, crawlspaces, and mechanical rooms. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock, and other hazards normally encountered in facility maintenance, repairs, and operations. Safety procedures must be followed, and appropriate protective safety gear must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. While a specific length of training and experience is not required, your responses to the questionnaire must be supported by detailed descriptions of your experience on your resume. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Supervises minor improvement projects that require direction and liaison between shops or other hospital activities. Inspects and repairs carpentry related functions including equipment and accessory installation, framing, finishing work, masonry, plastering, concrete work, sheet rock, raping, metal work, duct work, painting, locks, and lock installation. Provides consultation and advise to service chiefs regarding installation, operation, maintenance, or repair of systems and equipment. Reviews and oversees work of contractors to ensure compliance with the terms of the contract. Creates, updates, and implements the Preventive Maintenance Program for the shop. Monitors and completes all Preventive Maintenance Inspections; provides documentation required by the Joint Commission. Reads and checks drawings and blueprint schematics and overcoming difficulties encountered within applying the drawing to the worksite. Explains work requirement, methods and procedures and provide advice, if needed. Prepares and supervises preparation of plans and specifications for work after determining requirements by direct contact with responsible officials. Investigates work-related problems such as excessive costs, production delays, or low productivity. Analyzes work assignments considering availability of manpower and equipment deadlines, redirect workers and resources. Provides information and recommendations to high level supervision on such matters as planning , budgets requests, and staffing requirements. Reviews and improvements work methods, organizational features, and the restructuring of positions to eliminate those deemed unnecessary and ensures optimum content of those remaining. Estimates the cost of construction or modification and ensures necessary funds are available. Develops and maintains annual budget for section including purchases and contracts. Uses hand and power tools common in the trade to perform maintenance, repair, and installation. Determines equipment, supplies and tools needed at worksite. Inspects operation to ensure work performed is done in accordance with contract specifications and requirements.
