The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Facilities Management of Reliability (OFMR), Smithsonian Facilities, Undersecretary for Administration, Smithsonian Institution. OFMR provides reliability engineering and systems life cycle care responsibilities for all properties.
Experience: For the GS-11, you qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as installing, inspecting, testing and making repairs to Distributed Digital Controls, HVAC systems and the Siemens APOGEE Building Automation Systems or a similar system. For the GS-12, you qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience with control logic and programming of HVAC systems including adding devices and creating functions to perform various output sequences; and installing, inspecting, testing and making repairs to Distributed Digital Controls, HVAC systems, and the Siemens APOGEE Building Automation System or a similar system. Experience with the Siemens Desigo software application is not required but strongly desired. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. The engineering Technician (Mechanical) is responsible for performing a variety of mechanical engineering technician duties. In this position, you will: Install, repair, overhaul, rebuild, modify, test, program, and troubleshoot major integrated mechanical and electrical systems such as Siemens APOGEE Building Automation System, Direct Digital Controls, HVAC, etc. Conduct engineering analyses and evaluations of technical proposals and potential projects to estimate savings of energy and water. Design systems modifications and prepare procurement packages for repairs to the systems listed above and energy and water metering systems. Analyze, evaluate and report on complex mechanical and electrical systems operations.
