The Long Beach VA Health Care System is recruiting for (3) Health Technicians to support Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder Health Care Group (SCI/D) by providing individualized, patient-centered care. Patient-centered care comprises of a holistic approach to rehabilitation, and guides the SCI/D work practice, care practices, environment of care and leadership in daily nursing care. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/07/2025. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Utilizing various support surfaces and reposition patients in beds and wheelchairs; transferring patients from bed and wheelchair using safe patient handling techniques and appropriate equipment; assisting patients in grooming to include hair care, nail care, foot care, shaving and dressing; obtain, document, and report normal and abnormal vital signs information (temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, pain score, height and weight) to licensed nurse; evaluate and document patient progress. Duties include but are not limited to: Participates in walking rounds at the beginning and end of shift Monitors Foley/suprapubic catheter patency and signs of infection (such as presence of sediments, bloody urine, etc.) and provides report to the licensed nurses Performs perineal care for incontinent patients Performs skin checks to identify early signs of skin breakdown, report to the licensed nurses and document in the activities of daily living note on Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) Turns and repositions patients with skin breakdown every 2 hours and as needed Utilizes various support surfaces and repositions patients in beds and wheelchairs Transferring patients from bed and wheelchair using safe patient handling techniques and appropriate equipment (i.e. ceiling lifts, floor base lifts, Hoover matt, etc.) Measures and records vital signs, height, weight, and reports deviations to the licenses nurse Obtains, documents, and reports normal and abnormal vital signs information (temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, pain score, height and weight) to licensed nurse Utilizes non-pharmacological approaches to manage pain/discomfort (i.e., redirection, assisting patients to attend recreational therapy, etc.), performs small group programs (i.e. exercise, movies, arts and crafts, etc.) Work Schedule: Varies; Monday-Friday; 7:30am-8:00pm or 7:30pm-8:00am.
