What are we looking for? Skill in operating vehicle that is high, wide, long and heavy. Knowledge to make difficult judgments concerning loading and arranging cargo, overhead and side clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and distance to be maintained from other vehicles. Selects routes to take which will accommodate the size and weight of the vehicle and the laws restricting use of some roads by such vehicles. Ability to back up using side mirrors and hand signals from spotters. Skill in selecting alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic or other delaying conditions. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Responsible for maintaining a pending purchase order file of food, supplies, equipment, and UDSA allocations due into central warehouse. Monitors the pending orders to ensure the delivery dates are met. Conducts monthly on-site physical inventory of all food and supplies. Assists school food service managers in their efforts to accurately record the individual school monthly inventories. Performs physical inventory of NAF property located in warehouse and individual schools. Acts as a courier for transporting daily bank deposits from the schools/administrative office to the official banking institution. In addition, transports payroll checks bi-weekly to individual school.
What to Expect Operates and performs operator maintenance on delivery truck which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 10,000 pounds and up to 26,000 pounds. Vehicle is driven on the basis of either specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads at highway speeds throughout rural or urban areas over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions. Adheres to all State, local and installation traffic laws and ordinances. Maneuvers vehicle in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets and congested parking lots. Ensures cargo is protected from weather and is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss during transit. Checks material loaded or delivered against various documents for accountability. Heavy physical effort is required to maneuver long and heavy vehicles, especially when backing up. Frequently lifts merchandise, supplies or heavy equipment. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
