The Veterans Affairs VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) is a Level 1b facility and ranks among a complex system in the VA serving the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21). The VANCHCS offers a full range of comprehensive health care services including Dentistry, Geriatrics and Extended Care, Imaging, Medicine Services, Mental Health Services, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service, Primary Care, Radiation Oncology, Rehabilitation Services, Specialty Services, and Surgery.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Incumbent should have an understanding of a variety of complicated motor controls that are also used such as hermetically sealed motors and pressure controls, thermostatic motor control's, full and semi-automatic defrosting controls, relays, and other controls to protect against overload or overheating. Incumbent should have knowledge of HVAC systems with multiple compressors, elements and the understanding of how those devices work together for normal operation. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Incumbent will provide skilled expertise in performing preventive maintenance routinely on industrial and commercial type air conditioning and HVAC systems including supporting components of those system. The incumbent will provide and support routinely installations on industrial and commercial type air conditioning and HVAC systems including supporting components of those system. Repairs, modifies, maintains, troubleshoots, services and performs preventive maintenance of HVAC systems, air conditioning units, plants and systems related equipment. Responsible for completing work orders as assigned or an any emergency basis. Replaces items such as safety devices, thermostats, heating elements, overload switches, heater strips, magnetic coils, humidistat's, and condensers. Work Schedule: 08:00am - 04:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD02959-A Physical Requirements: Work requires good coordination and good physical condition. Required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl and work in uncomfortable positions and to pull, push, reach over the shoulder and lift supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers.
