About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to JBER. This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, up to 34 hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent) and must speak, read, and write English. Must be able to follow simple oral instructions, be able to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines. Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgement in sequencing tasks. Must have knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food, and for cleaning equipment and work area. Must be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time.
1. Prepares serving bowls and platters with hot and cold foods including meats, vegetables, bread, fruit, milk, juice and water. Deliver the correct amount of prepared food platters, bowls, pitchers, and utensils to classrooms so that family style dining is used. Ensures that all platters, bowls, and pitchers are covered with saran wrap or foil before being taken from the kitchen. 2. Prepares fruits and vegetables for cooking and serving by washing, peeling, scraping and dicing. Cuts and shreds lettuce and slices tomatoes and opens cans. May prepare sandwiches, cereal or salads. Pours milk, juices or water in pitchers for meals and snacks served. 3. Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings, exhaust hoods, under and behind kitchen equipment. Cleans equipment in kitchen to include stove, refrigerator, meat slicer, toaster, mixer and steamer. Cleans all counter and tabletops after meal preparation. Collects all dishes and utensils after all meals. Scrapes, soaks, scours or scrubs pots, bowls, and pans. Disposes of food waste and garbage in trash cans. Sweeps and mops up spills on floors. 4. Assists in unloading supply trucks and storing heavy supplies. May go to the commissary to pick up items when cook or laborer is out. 5. Trains with cook in meal preparation. May prepare meals and snack in the absence of cook. Completes kitchen checklist daily. Records temperature of refrigerators daily. May escort public health inspectors into kitchen in the absence of cook or director. 6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
