This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Construction Division, Construction Branch. The selectee will serve as a journey-level Mason with expertise in stone and marble installation, renovation, and repair in historic buildings where the preservation of historical conditions is vital. Journey Level experience must be reflected in the applicant's work history. *Applicant Must Also Have a Strong Background in Tile Setting*

*** Please Note: This position is temporary in nature and is not to exceed 13 months. This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved. It is a position that is subject to the project needs of the Agency. Therefore, the appointment could be terminated at any time due to shortage of work or shortage of funds without any advance notice. If project work continues however, it could be extended beyond the 13 month time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency. As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management’s expectations, with no advance notice. *** Tour of Duty: Day Shift (4:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)--Monday through Thursday **Applicant must have a strong background in Tile Setting and must be reflected in the Applicant's Resume and Work History. HOURS MAY CHANGE DUE TO OPERATING NEEDS OF MANAGEMENT Major Duties: Lays out, assembles, and installs stone and masonry projects to include repairs to existing building stone and masonry in and around the capitol complex. Maintains, repairs, constructs and makes alterations to masonry structures of brick, block, stone, marble, cement and similar materials. Repairs the interior and exterior marble of the buildings and grounds. Cuts and cleans surfaces using high pressure chemical washers. Repoints joints, resets loose stone, caulks, waterproof and repairs terrazzo flooring. Where needed after renovations, builds new walls and reconfigures existing walls that may be made up of different kinds of stone, block, and/or brick. Cuts, polishes, cleans, and matches various materials including marble, granite, and limestone. Repairs and finishes stone walls and trim using decorative designs. Lays curved or circular structures using adobe, block, brick, and stone. Repairs and maintains terrazzo and tile. As required, demolishes staircases and masonry walls. Cuts openings in walls and lays brick and concrete block. Complies with OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that all safety practices and equipment are fully utilized. Must ensure the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
