This vacancy is for a WG-5725-09, Crane Operator, located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SFLC INVENTORY CTL POINT OPS SEC -SFLC-ALD-SUPPLY-ICP OPS in BALTIMORE, Maryland.
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREENOUT). 2. Operation of motor vehicles. 3. Work practices (including keeping things neat, clean and in order). 4. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation). 5. Ability to drive safely (motor vehicles). 6. Ability to operate safely (non-motor vehicles). 7. Reliability and dependability as a Crane Operator. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You will be responsible for operating a variety of materials handling and transport automotive equipment such as mobile boom crane, forklift, stake truck, pick-up truck and similar equipment throughout the Coast Guard (CG) Yard/SFLC. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Lifting, positioning and transporting supplies, materials, and equipment throughout assigned area. Performing occasional bridge crane operational work. Operating various material handling equipment including forklifts rated up to 36K. Performing operator pre-checks and maintenance including checking equipment and lifting gear prior to use including but not limited to task such as checking tire air pressure and inspecting for defects; checking for proper fluid levels and checking lifting apparatus for worn and /or damaged areas. Estimating the weight and center of gravity of the load to be moved and safely rigging the load/placing the forklift ties before lifting. Annotating inventory location in Warehouse Management System when items are stowed, picked or relocated.
