Job Description:

These positions are located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, DC (AFRH-W), within the Nursing Service department of Healthcare Services. The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for performing various Resident care activities and related non-professional services necessary in caring for the non-skilled nursing care, personal needs and comfort of Residents.
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Licensure: Must have an active and current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in a state or territory of the U.S. AND Specialized Experience for the GS-5: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide performing duties such as: Providing personal nursing care; OR Performing support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; OR Caring for patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement.; OR Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients. OR you may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelors degree with courses related to the occupation, if required; OR you may qualify on a combination of experience and education: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.
As a Nursing Assistant, you will: Provide comfort care and hygiene to Residents to include bathing, hair and nail care, oral hygiene, skin care and back rubs. Assist Residents in walking, moving, and changing position by supporting and turning them. Maintain flow sheets and Resident records, document Resident care as per expected standards. Take accurate vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature) and other required measurements (i.e. height, weight).
