Job Description:

You will serve as a EDUCATION SPECIALIST in the NATIONAL MUSEUM.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes duties related to the following: 1.) Researching and developing educational materials utilizing online educational platforms; 2.) Advising visitors on available tours, online educational programs, and other teacher resources available; 3.) Coordinating the preparation of special events as a representative and point of contact for the museum; 4.) Conducting tours with accurate information at the appropriate educational and interest level for various audiences; 5.) Utilizing Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop to create documents and publicity for an organization. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will conduct tours inside the museum and also participate in walking tours of the Washington Navy Yard.
You will research and develop educational materials and programs for the museum specific to students, teachers and families.
You will assist in the management of the museum's volunteer program. This includes maintaining volunteer files and records, tracking hours, overseeing periodic volunteer meetings at the museum, and attending monthly virtual NMD volunteer meetings.
You will have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Photoshop in the development of education-related print collateral and online use.
You will collaborate with both intra-agency (NHHC) departments, other museum departments, and outside organizations in developing education programs for families and youth.
You will occasionally work evenings or weekends as a member of the museum education department team.
