These positions are located in the Optical Lab for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) in Indianapolis, IN. The employee's duty station is off site in Indianapolis. The primary purpose of this position is to provide support to the VISN 11/12 Optical Lab encompassing the management of stock and inventory.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify at the GS-4 level if you fulfill one of the following qualifications: -General Experience: One (1) year of general experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. -OR- -Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) -OR- -Combination: Equivalent combinations of education and general experience (as described above) to meet the requirements at the GS-4 level. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Adaptability Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Flexibility Technical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is normally accomplished in an office setting, however, due to the nature of the work, the incumbent may be called upon to assist in the receipt, storage, and distribution of supplies primarily consisting of lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee might be required to endure brief periods of heat, humidity, etc. as some warehouse areas are not air conditioned. ***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Ships out Veterans' eyeglasses to either their home or a dispensary dependent on the care site. Keeps a tracking record of all jobs that go out and provides each care site with a packing slip with the jobs that are contained in it. Responsible for the administration of the optical supplies at the lab, which includes inventory coordination, input of all supporting documentation, management of necessary records, and completion of inventory reports and investigation of any discrepancies. Receives storage and replenishment of a wide variety of optical lenses, frames, optical supplies and office supplies. Responsible for the receipt of all incoming stock to the Optical Lab and the processing of the receiving documents. Maximizes available storage space and insures the work area is clear of debris for easy flow of stock and exercises proper safety measures when using and handling equipment. Plans and organizes service storage space by keeping track of future orders to be received so there is space available for stock and the stock is strategically stored to meet service needs. Performs other duties as assigned.
