Job Description:
This position is in Primary Care at the Veteran Health Indiana Facility, Indianapolis, Indiana. The incumbent serves as the Heath Technician within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) assisting with patient care activities under the direction of a nurse supervisor or designee.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-6 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS 5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Demonstrates Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA): Aiding with patient care primarily in the primary care outpatient setting. Providing great customer service skills to the patient and their family throughout visit within the primary care setting. Knowledge of: direct patient care techniques, venipuncture procedure methods, collecting/labeling specimens, proper infection control procedures, HIPPA as it relates to the privacy of patient information, medical and administrative records systems. Preferred Experience: Phlebotomy experience Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Duties may include but not limited to: Patient Care: Vital signs and clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts as indicated Check expiration dates of meds and supplies Delegated procedures and treatments, including but not limited to: venipuncture, EKG, bladder scan, ear irrigations, wound care, accudata, doppler, pulse oximetry, weights, and other procedures requested by provider within the HTs scope of practice Makes observations and thoroughly documents care and the patient's response. Electronic record documentation, including documentation of procedures, vaccine administration, clinical information obtained during patient calls/visits, vital signs, clinical reminders, and other pertinent clinical information Assists with minor procedures, including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, positioning patient, ensuring comfort and privacy. Administrative Duties Provides clerical and administrative support to the unit Maintains patient's record/charts Providers general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the unit. Accurately enters order and/or consults as approved through Primary Care Outpatient Protocols Assists patients in contacting members of their PACT/extended PACT team and/or navigating through the health care system Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining controls for specimens/tests and documenting results/measurements. Collects and organizes data from follow-up visits. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting, and repositioning patients, or similar activities. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients.
