SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: High school or trade school graduate as an electrician. Construction trades helpful. Two- or three-year¿s electrical work done at the journeyman level, plus one year experience in related building trades. Must possess a Universal Technician certification issued by an approved certification program. Must have knowledge of the operation and installation of a variety of complete electrical systems and equipment. Must be able to read, interpret and work from blueprints or sketches and be knowledgeable of basic shop mathematics. Must possess a valid Virginia state driver's license and be capable of obtaining a government vehicle operator's license. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the qualifications above. RESPONSIBILITIES: Leads the work of NA-10 maintenance mechanics. Passes on instruction from supervisors, starts maintenance workers on their work, sets the pace, demonstrates proper work methods, checks work while in progress, answers employees' questions. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, carrying, crawling and climbing. frequent lifting, carrying and setting up of materials and equipment weighing up to I 00 pounds is also required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work may be performed either inside or outside, occasionally in inclement weather. Frequently exposed to sudden temperature changes, dust, dirt, fumes, spray and loud noises. Subject to cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shocks or injuries occurring from lifting heavy pieces of lumber/equipment or in fall from ladder/scaffolds. Required to wear supplied protective clothing/equipment.
Leads refrigeration team in inspection, diagnosis, repair and installation of various types of refrigeration/cooling equipment including but not limited to walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, freezers, self-contained and remote compressor units, icemakers, water fountains, beverage dispensers, and window and systems air conditioning. Installs, repairs, modifies and troubleshoots new or existing electrical lines, circuits or systems in both industrial-sized buildings and smaller activities. Installs conduit and wire for electrical circuits and low voltage equipment such as terminals, TRW systems and intercom systems. Check inside and outside lights and replaces as required. Performs electrical work at the journeyman level and is the electrical expert for MCCS Division. Relays instructions from supervisor, gets work started and sets work pace. Demonstrates work methods and provides work-related guidance. Ensures worksite materials and tools are available to complete work. Reports workplace injuries immediately to the immediate or higher-level supervisor, and to the Human Resources office in the absence of the immediate supervisor. Checks with supervisor on problems. Checks on work and meets productivity goals. Ensure employees follow security, safety and housekeeping rules. Conducts on-the-job training and instructions. Perform supervisory duties in an emergency, or short-term and nonrecurring basis. Installs, determine defects and repairs a variety of electrical equipment including but not limited to motors, pumps, heaters, vacuum cleaners, light fixtures, conduit, wire, switches, outlets and circuit breakers. Installs or trouble shoots and repairs a variety of small and domestic heating and cooking units and systems. Checks, tests and replaces controls and thermostat. Installs and traces, locates defects and repairs a variety of cooling equipment. Ensures compliance with all pertinent safety and fire regulations. May perform the duties of subordinate maintenance workers which would include various electrical repair and maintenance, refrigeration repair and maintenance or other duties. Must operate vehicle in performance of job duties, hauling material and equipment to and from job site. May be required to work during inclement weather when the rest of the Base is closed or arrive on duty early or stay on duty after normal working hours to initiate maintenance repairs, remove snow, ice, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned/required
