The United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Southern District of Florida (SDFL) is seeking an experienced attorney to handle litigation in Bankruptcy Courts in the Southern District of Florida.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
This is an open continuous announcement that is intended to solicit applications in order to fill immediate and future vacancies. First round consideration will be given to applications submitted by July 25, 2025, at 11:59pm EST. Applicant list will be reviewed every 30 days thereafter. Applicants will be notified when their applications have been reviewed/referred for further consideration. Hiring will occur on a rolling basis. If selected, you will be working with a team consisting of another full time Bankruptcy AUSA and two full time Bankruptcy paralegals to practice before all federal bankruptcy courts in this District. The cases you will handle consist of creditor side bankruptcy representation of other federal agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, the Small Business Administration and the Department of Education, in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 proceedings under the United States Bankruptcy Code, and related adversary proceedings. You will be assigned cases to litigate from inception to completion as the sole attorney representing those federal agencies in bankruptcy court, to preserve said agencies' claims to payment from the bankruptcy estate. Your responsibilities will increase and become more complex as your training and experience progress. Position Requirements: Applicants must possess excellent academic and professional credentials, superior oral and written communication abilities, outstanding legal research and analytical skills, and have a J.D. from an accredited law school. A minimum of two years of creditor side bankruptcy experience or two years post law school clerkship experience with a federal Bankruptcy Judge (or combination thereof) is required. Applicants must be an active member of a state bar in good standing. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
