The primary purpose or this position is: To operate a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 10,000 pounds to transport cargo on and off base and. as required, paascngers.
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of up to 10,000 pounds, such as pickup trucks. step vans, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, station wagons, etc. 2. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo. 3. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation. 4. Ability to operate a forklift. Reliability and dependability to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules. Ability to communicate orally, and be courteous and tesponsive to the needs of the passengers. 5. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read road maps to determine the shortest and safest route. Knowledge of passenger safety rules including those regarding the use of seatbelts. 6. Ability to interpret instruction, specifications, etc., related to operation, loading and unloading, and preventive maintenance of motor vehicles. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
- Drives one or more types or light trucks, such as pickup trucks, step vans, flatbed trucks, etc., to transport supplies, materials, personnel, and equipment to on and off base organizations in all traffic conditions. - Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. - Maintains records and documents actions. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. - As required, drives one or more types of passenger vehicles such as sedans, vans, crew cab pickup trucks, and station wagons on the basis of specific trip assignments or regular schedules.
