To qualify for the Second Offset Pressperson, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, Job Element #1: Ability to do the work of a Second Offset Pressperson with normal supervision to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is: Assigning and managing workloads; Setting up, adjusting, operating, inspecting and maintaining multi-color offset sheet-fed presses (up to 7 units with split fountains) and screen-printing presses; and/or Printing passports and other security and quality work according to specifications. In addition to the above SCREENOUT: GPO applicants must have: (1) completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacant position. (2) at least 1 year of journeyperson experience after completion of the above . (3) served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in the GPO; OR (1) a baccalaureate degree or 3 years of responsible experience in the printing industry equivalent to, at a minimum, the GPO journeyperson level. (2) 2 years of experience in the printing industry of a scope and quality sufficient to carry out the duties of the vacant position, 1 year of which must have been at or comparable to the GS-12 level. (3) served a minimum of 1 year in a career or career-conditional appointment in the GPO. Applicants with at least one year of journeyperson-level experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement to be considered.
Monitors the presses throughout the press run and make adjustments as needed.
Performs minor maintenance on presses regularly and inspects, adjusts, replaces, and sets rollers.
Examines press plates for defects.
Sets up presses and equipment according to specifications.
Directs, assists and instructs Feeder Operator or Printing Plant Workers in the maintenance, cleaning and securing of the press.
