The Electrician Supervisor has the overall responsibility to ensure that Electric Shop personnel accomplish their mission through his/her action and supervision; he/she will work under/report to the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. The incumbent has full supervisory responsibility for the training, motivation and direction of the Electrical Shop in repair, modification, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of all electrical systems and components.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Electrical workers at this grade make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires electrical workers he/she to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Electrical workers frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and, less often, up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms.
The duties of the position include but not limited to: He/She is responsible for supervising an electrical work unit that will provide professional work of a high quality and standard to modify, install, evaluate, repair, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain complex electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. The systems maintained consist of, but are not limited to, the main service entrance 15kv distribution system, normal power sub-stations and distribution, generators, paralleling with utilities, Automatic Transfer Switch's, switchgear and switching operations, transformers, essential electrical systems, emergency power systems, life safety systems, specialty medical equipment and electrical requirements, branch circuits, lighting and receptacles. He/She implements the equipment electrical safety program and maintains the necessary correspondence and records documentation to comply with all regulatory requirements and VA Regulations and Directives. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in the applicable areas of personnel management, Affirmative Action Plans, the EEO program, and the Merit Promotion Policies. He/She must be able to comprehend written material and must be able to express himself/herself orally and in writing in a clear, concise, and correct manner. He/she must be technically competent to provide leadership in the trade he/she supervises. He/she must be adept in preparing the paperwork required to initiate maintenance contracts and maintain compliance records; to execute a complete personnel program for subordinates, and to initiate memorandum and letters as required to accomplish program responsibilities. He/she must have knowledge of the entire work order and equipment management programs. Initiate work orders and assign equitably to staff, understanding the requirements to complete in a timely manner. He/She will interpret complex blueprints and specifications and furnish technical details and information if not readily available or understood by subordinates. Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electronic equipment systems, at times with or without the aid of any technical documentation or maintenance manuals. He/She uses his own judgment to assure the least amount of electrical interruption during any electrical operations, switching, maintenance or outages. He/She does repair work and construction with little or no supervision during progress. The supervisor shall check work of subordinates to ensure that it meets required standards. He/She assists in assigning resources to accommodate other Engineering staff in preparation for utility outages. Assign, assess and provide resources necessary to accommodate these outages in the preparation and execution phases. He/She shall create a detailed, step-by-step sequence of events to be submitted and approved by leadership prior to any electrical outage. Standard Operating Procedures shall also be developed and maintained to ensure proper operation and maintenance of the hospital's electrical systems. He/She is responsible for adhering to of the Medical Center Utility Systems Management Plan. This plan consists of following the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) codes, National Electric Code (NEC), The Joint Commission, VA Regulations and Directives and all applicable codes to insure the plan is compliant. Maintaining all reports and documentation for the electrical section is the responsibility of the employee. The Electrical Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the Medical Center has safe, reliable utility systems available at all times. He/She maintains a plan for preventative maintenance of expendable/non-expendable equipment. Coordinates preventative maintenance with shop personnel to establish preventative maintenance (PM) procedures, estimated labor and material costs, frequency of PMs, and critical levels. Reviews completed PM documentation and makes corrections to PM schedules as needed. Evaluates the facility to maintain and correct the overall electrical systems of the facility to assure smooth functioning of the facility and compliance with the Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards. He/She possesses considerable skill in communicating with others to persuade reasonable compliance with scheduled maintenance and to inform management of levels of progress.
