The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is November through May, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: November 30, 2025.
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/07/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience in archeology or a related field at the GS-04 grade or higher. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: assisting archeologists or senior technicians in conducting cultural resource inventory surveys, assisting professionals in archeological field surveys; assisting in archeological excavation projects or prehistoric architectural assessments; documenting findings or assisting in the data collection and recording. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with related coursework (anthropology, archeology, or related fields). You must include transcripts with your application materials. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example 6 months of the specialized experience described (50% of the experience requirement), and three years (90 semester hours) of college study as defined above in an accredited educational institution (50% of the qualifying education requirement) Note: only education beyond the first 60 semester hours can be considered. You must include transcripts with your application materials. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priorÂity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
Major Duties of this position include: Participates in basic archeological field surveys by walking over the landscape and searching for archeological artifacts. Conducts limited supervised excavation and testing of sites, including the careful recovery of sample materials. Maintains related databases, forms, maps, and files. Area Information: Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is conveniently located half way between Phoenix and Tucson in the friendly city of Coolidge, Arizona. Shopping/medical are available in Coolidge one (1) mile from park headquarters. Full range of shopping, medical, dental and recreational facilities available in Casa Grande (18 mi.), Phoenix area (50 mi.) and Tucson (60 mi.). Kindergarten through senior high school available in Coolidge. Day care is available in Coolidge. A college is located between Coolidge and Casa Grande, 10 mi. from Coolidge. In addition, there are several other points of interest within a 35 mile radius of Coolidge such as Picacho Peak State Park, the Historic Town of Florence, Boyce Thompson Southwestern Arboretum, Lost Dutchman State Park in the Superstition Mountains and Huhugam Heritage Center.
