Major Duties of this position include: The Incumbents of this Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-07 position will be responsible for performing regular custodial duties such as, sweeping, moping, vacuuming, trash collection, restroom cleaning, and minor building repairs or alterations such as replacing or repairing doors and windows, drywall, repairing steps, walks and ramps, replace siding and shingles, and repairing masonry. As well as performing tasks involving the painting interior and exterior surfaces, completing minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures, replacing faucets etc. Duties may include cleaning restrooms and comfort stations, collecting and removing trash from facilities, and performing routine grounds maintenance. Perform work assignments associated with the maintenance and repair of grounds, buildings, exterior structures and related fixtures and utilities. Other duties include the maintenance of items such as tables, signs, shelters, water systems, pumps, and equipment. A typical work assignment requires a general familiarity with the practices, equipment and tools used by the maintenance personnel in accomplishing their assigned duties. This includes operating equipment and tools such as heavy trucks, leaf blowers, power saws, drills, cutting torches. A general understanding of some of the common practices of carpentry, plumbing, and painting trades are required. Chiricahua National Monument Area Information: Chiricahua National Monument is located 37 miles from Willcox, Arizona, a town of approximately 3700 people. K-12 schools, medical and dental facilities, grocery and general merchandise stores, a library, and other limited services are available in Willcox. Full amenities including an international airport are available in Tucson which is 120 miles away. Elevation at headquarters is 5400 feet with temperatures ranging from zero to 40 degrees (F) in the winter to 60 to 100 degrees (F) in the summer. Annual average rainfall is 19 inches, and average annual snowfall is 10 inches. Coronado National Memorial is located approximately 20 miles south of Sierra Vista, an Arizona city of 40,000 with many options for shopping, entertainment, religious, and medical services. K-12 schools, a junior college and a University of Arizona branch campus are all located in Sierra Vista. Headquarters is located at 5200 feet in elevation; the area receives on average 20 inches of precipitation annually and temperatures can range from the teens to 100 degrees (F). Fort Bowie National Historic Site is located 14 miles south of the town of Bowie in southeastern Arizona. Fort Bowie is a very remote site; the closest medical facilities, churches, and limited shopping can be found in Willcox which is 38 miles away. All amenities including an international airport are available in Tucson, approximately 135 miles from Fort Bowie. Elevations at Fort Bowie range from 4,550 to 5,250 feet and temperatures ranger from below freezing in the winter to over 90 degrees (F) in the summer. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument Area Information Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is located in the Sonoran Desert in Southwestern Arizona. Park headquarters is located 35 miles from Ajo, Arizona and 5 miles from the international boundary with Mexico. Park housing is very limited and most employees live in Ajo. The nearest cites to Ajo include Phoenix (90 miles away) and Tucson (120 miles away). Two commuter vans operate between Ajo and Monument offices. Ajo has a population of 3000 and multiple amenities that allow families and individuals to easily thrive, including: K-12 schools An IGA supermarket Desert Senita Health Clinic and pharmacy Pima County Library County parks with playground, swimming pool, ball fields, community center, activity course, and more Several churches Restaurants (Agave Grill, Arriba Mexican Food, Tacos Tarrasco) Stores for household goods, electronics, and appliances (K5/Radio Shack, Family Dollar, Dollar General) Three gas stations (Chevron, Shell, Circle K) A local natural history association, archaeological society, CSA, farmers market, and other community groups that sponsor events on a regular basis Average daily maximum temperatures in June, July, and August are 102-103°F. Average daily maximum temperatures in December, January, and February are 69-73°F.
