Job Description:

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Engineer, Construction Division, Construction Branch. The selected individual for this position will perform plumbing functions, including maintenance, repair, installation and inspections of plumbing facilities and piping systems in multi-story, historic buildings. A Certified Welder is Desired.
Screen-Out -Ability to perform plumbing duties without more than normal supervision.

This is strictly a temporary appointment where there is no permanent need or permanent funding available for the work involved and that the temporary appointment is limited in duration. The duration of this temporary appointment may be shorter or longer, depending on the duration of the work or project. The temporary position may also be terminated at any time due to lack of work and/or lack of funds without any advance notice. As a non-permanent employee, you may also be separated for failure to meet management's expectations, with no advance notice. Two Nightshift Positions are Available: 8:00 PM - 6:30 AM (Monday - Thursday) Hours may Change Due to Operational Needs of Management ***Welding Experience is Desired: Include welding duties and experience in your resume to reflect Welding Experience. MAJOR DUTIES: Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility supply and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, distribution systems, water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems and showers. Works from building plans, blueprints and sketches to plan and layout the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall and proper operation of systems and equipment. Installs, modifies and repairs systems by locating and tapping main lines, setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, placing hangers for proper level and slope and determining and installing valves, traps and unions needed for proper operation of the system. Completes the routing and placement of systems leading to equipment and seating, hooking up and testing the equipment. Performs inspection, testing, repair and service of fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA standards and local codes. Completes electronic based testing related to the inspection process. Works flexible schedules as needed in order to accommodate testing schedules. Installs new and replaces existing piping systems; installs/repairs steam traps and relief and control valves. Cuts, threads and connects pipes by means of union, flanges and sweating. Fits pipe sections by screwing, bolting, brazing, welding, gluing, fusing, soldering and replacing connections with new mechanical couplings. Attends assigned safety meetings, surveys, equipment checks, tool checks and project site checks to ensure that customer safety standards are adhered to. Ensures all required signatures, photos, completed forms and other needed documentation are maintained. Complies with applicable AOC and OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas. Provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure that the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is utilized.
