ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Southwest Region, Phoenix Area, Fort Yuma Service Unit, Winterhaven, CA. This position serves as a Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Program which provides integrated behavioral/mental health services to pediatric, adolescent, adult and elderly patients and partners in an outpatient setting. This position will report to the Clinical Director.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): All applicants must meet all the basic requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited professional nursing educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. GS-13: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Examples include: Providing a blend of nursing and psychiatric care services to patients and families, making diagnoses per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV); Knowledge of alcohol/drug rehabilitation programs including 12 step sobriety programs; knowledge of mental health pharmaceuticals to provide medication management and counseling; leadership and supervisory experience directing a nursing team, unit or department. Supervisory Qualification Guide: Candidates should possess proficiency or the potential to develop proficiency in these competencies prior to entry into a supervisory position. Major Duties: Supervising, planning, organizing, and developing community oriented ambulatory psychiatric, mental health, social work, and counseling/therapy services. Set and adjust short-term priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work; assign work to subordinates based on priorities. Reviews the clinical practices and procedures and directs the activities of the Behavioral Health staff in accordance with the objectives of the Indian Health Service. Provide mental and psychiatric health maintenance, emergency, and therapeutic services for lifespan patients. Provides independent diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic nursing and medical services for patients of varying complexity and advanced nature utilizing advanced clinical and analytical skills.
