To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. NOTE: Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Individual Occupational Requirements: Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience AND 6 months of specialized experience to at least the next GS-3 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Enforce security rules and regulations, follow facility restraint policy, escorts patients as needed, directs visitors to the appropriate department. General Experience is described as administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information. Specialized Experience is described as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying. OR Education/Training: Education: Successfully completed 2 years of study at an accredited college or university in any subject is fully qualifying. Training: Successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws, or investigative techniques is considered qualifying for specialized experience at the GS-4 level on a month-for-month basis. Medical Requirements: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Southwest Region, Phoenix Area, Parker Indian Health Center and Chemehuevi Clinic, Security department located in Parker, AZ. and Havasu Lake, AZ. The incumbent performs protective service work in guarding federally owned, leased buildings or property, protecting Government equipment, materials, and controlling access into the facility along with public safety. Major Duties: Controls personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering controlled areas, referring persons who lack proper credentials to a control point to arrange access. Patrols the hospital/clinic out buildings and surrounding grounds to prevent theft or damage to federal property, equipment, tools, supplies and other real or personal property. Performs emergency traffic duties such as: enforcing speed limits; directing traffic and controlling the movement of vehicles and pedestrians on the government premises. Prepares various kinds of legible written/electronic reports.
