Job Description:

This position is located in the Patient Registration Section of the Business Office of the Lower Brule Health Center in Lower Brule, SD. This section provides registration, scheduling and eligibility services, which are the key points for interaction with patients to obtain the process demographic and insurance information for alternate resources, purchased/referred care, and private/commercial insurance. Incumbent reports to the Business Office Manager.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: General Schedule Qualification Standards GS-03: Incumbent must have 6 months of General Experience and/or 1 year above high school. GS-04: Incumbent must have 1 year of General Experience and/or 2 years above high school. General Experience: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Education: Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Applicants must submit transcripts to be considered. Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for the GS-3 and GS-4 grade level. Applicants must submit transcripts to be considered. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Collects third party recipient health cards and explains beneficiary process to new patients. Assist patients in completing new or updated forms for the Patient Registration System. Determines the eligibility of patients seeking health care according to Indian Health Service Guidelines. Obtains signatures for file on required forms for alternate resources, and Patient Referred Care prior to patients being seen. Maintains, key-entering, updates, and verifying all alternate resource data necessary for Patient Registration and for accurate billing through the use of Patient Registration System. Interviews patient to obtain information to initiate a new health record. Directs the preparation and completion of assignment of benefits forms.
