The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Lead Transportation Assistant. The Lead Transportation Assistant will function under the Veterans Transportation Service.
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/14/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Scheduling patient appointments; entering travel authorizations; completing patient consults; entering data into computer; experience with Microsoft Office Applications (particularly Word and Excel); determining enrollment and eligibility; operating standard office equipment (for example, telephone, typewriter, fax, photocopier, calculator); Determining appropriate services for clients or customers; making or receiving telephone calls; processing incoming forms, records, or other documents; and recommending solutions to complex problems. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Customer Service Decision Making Transportation Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that will require a mature approach and collective reasoning to overcome. The incumbent is subject to a great deal of stress because of the high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever changing demands due to program changes. The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to: Daily responsibilities include collecting, compiling and tracking data and statistical information in support of Veterans Transportation Service (VTS). Performs basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports. Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. Enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system. Receives reports and information to verify that workload being captured is correct in the VetRide system. Maintains automated system of programĀ specific data to track items such as service project milestones, progress reports, clinic trends, program trends, performance measures, compliance strategies, etc. Interacts with various other transportation services such as Emergency Medical Service (EMS, Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), etc., and other transportation providers. Receives and reviews billings from various parties for government payment and verifies services billed were authorized by the VA. Arranges special mode transport for patients adhering to provider specifications of mode of transport and ensuring the mode is correctly denoted per the patient's medical condition. Coordinates patient transfer with other VA ensuring the patient arrives at a specified time for admission. Incumbent accurately arranges and coordinates air ambulance travel for eligible veterans for organ/tissue transplants or other inter-facility transfers, prepares authorizations for travel by taxi and/or other hired vehicles, and makes travel arrangements based on information from the traveler en route to revolve problems.
