The position is located in the Richmond VA Medical Center, Environment Management Service, Laundry Section, Richmond, Virginia. The primary purpose of the position is to perform work in a semi-automated laundry processing approximately six million pounds of linen annually.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The employee will work in a semi-automated laundry operation that processes six-million pounds of linen annually. This position is responsible for sorting linen by classification and customer, correctly identifying personal clothing, and maintaining accurate counts. Employee separates soiled textiles into appropriate categories; properly handles soiled and infectious linen; separates, folds, ties, stacks rough dry textiles using power equipment; processes flatwork and/or finishing equipment; and operates tunnel finisher and auto-valet uniform dispensing equipment. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Maintains a neat, clean, organized work area to ensure productivity and efficiency; and performs routine cleaning assignments within the Laundry. Completes reports and work assignments with accuracy, free from errors and meets established timeframes;-Notifies supervisor when encountering difficulties with work assignments or unfinished work;-Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be able to lift and carry textiles up to fifty (50) pounds. Position requires individual to push or pull soiled and clean laundry carts to and from various locations within the medical center.
