This vacancy is for a WL-3414-11, Machinist Leader located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Aviation Logistics Center (ALC), Industrial Operations Division (IOD), Industrial Production Branch, Elizabeth City, NC.
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to Lead or Supervise. (SCREENOUT) Operation of machine tools Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability to use shop drawings Measurement and Layout Ability to use hand tools for machine shop Knowledge of metals National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You will serve as a Machinist Leader and be responsible for experience in, and knowledge of various machine shop trades and how they interrelate, and skill and knowledge in leading subordinate workers. Subject to day or night shift operations. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Passing on instructions to subordinates from the supervisor, making work assignments, establishing workflow, setting the pace for work completion, and distributing and balancing the workload. Assuring written instructions and reference materials are available and followed and safety regulations are complied with. Manufacturing complex and non-routine parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials. Fabricating, overhauling, and repairing standard types of cutting tools such as drills, reamers, milling cutters, and carbide tools; jigs and fixtures; drilling templates; punching, forming, and blanking dies; and gauges such as plug, ring, snap, and caliper gauges. Performing complex inspection work usually of manufactured or repaired products using a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques. Cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining the tools, equipment, and supplies of the trade involved. Training employees with lesser skills in machinist activities.
