The purpose of the position is to perform a variety of custodial work. Requires substantial physical effort to operate heavy duty cleaning equipment. Must apply knowledge of infection control and hazardous waste procedures to ensure compliance with safety/health directives. Performs duties for which general instructions are received and require supervision. Completes routine cleaning tasks to established quality assurance standards using established procedures within allowed timeframes.

Ability to perform duties of hazardous waste and operate industrial powered equipment. Preferred Experience Seven years housekeeping duties in a public hospital or VA Medical Center. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy (industrial-type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Cleans and dust areas such as storerooms, offices, corridors, and stairways. Sweeps, scrubs, mops, waxes and polishes floors, using brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers and buffers. Promptly eliminates and reports any unsafe conditions practices or equipment. Has a working knowledge of the storage requirements of various pharmaceuticals and hazardous materials. Establishes priorities and works independently without guidance, determining appropriate methods, procedures and techniques require to process documents, verify quantity and condition of materials and equipment received an maintain proper inventory of items in storage. Skill to properly use and operate mechanized equipment including utility vehicles and electromechanical automated equipment (forklifts, dollies, pallet jacks, tugs etc). Ability to operate, adjust, and clean heavy power cleaning equipment; and to use common cleaning tools and lightweight cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and floor scrubbers. Knowledge of fire and safety rules, infection control regulations, and work practices in order to identify hazards that may be present. The work may require wearing protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, hardhat and other safety equipment as necessary.
