The incumbent serves as the Program Manager for the VISN 22 Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) Tele-Endocrinology Program. This position is responsible for the leadership, management, and operations of the Tele-Endocrinology program at the VISN level CRH. Tele-Endocrinology is a Veteran-centric multidisciplinary clinic for patients with diabetes and other endocrinopathies, managed by a team of experts from endocrinology, nursing, nutrition, and mental health using telehealth technology.

Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Fellowship in Endocrinology Preferred Experience: Extensive supervisory, clinical endocrinology, telehealth (including Clinical Video Telehealth), and program management experience is needed. Understanding of, and prior work with double side documentation is preferred. At least two years in a leadership role such as Endocrinology section chief, assistant chief, VISN Lead, etc. At least one year of experience in Tele-Endocrinology and Connective Care modalities (CVT & VVC) Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit https://www.va.gov/ohrm/QualificationStandards/. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Full administrative responsibility for developing, organizing, and directing the VISN CRH Tele-Endocrinology program and CRH Tele-Endocrinology staff, with an emphasis on delivering services to the most underserved facilities Supervises the VISN CRH Tele Endocrinology Team which may include but is not limited to: CRH Tele-Endocrinologist CRH Tele-Endocrinology Registered Dietician CRH Tele-Endocrinology Program Specialist Serves as a liaison and resource for the VISN CRH Tele-Endocrinology program to multiple people and programs including individual CRH staff and its leadership, VA Central Offices, as well as facility, VISN, and national leadership. Maintains records, preparing project administrative and statistical reports for review process. Coordinates and tracks the accomplishments and evaluation of Tele-Endocrinology related clinical and scientific efforts to provide recommendations or decisions for program strategies, modifications, budgeting or improvements. Monitors compliance with program requirements. Ensures efficient operations of the Tele-Endocrinology program and utilizes resources to ensure these operations meet the mission and goals of the VISN and national CRH program, as well as Veterans Health Administration (VHA) standards Assumes responsibility of communication with appropriate leadership staff on a national, VISN, and facility level to influence decisions and achieve the mission and goals of the Tele-Specialty program. Assesses and responds to any complex issues or questions that may arise related to the Tele-Endocrinology program by ensuring consistent and effective communication, both orally and in writing, with VISN CRH staff, as well as national, VISN, and facility leadership, as appropriate. Holds regular meetings with all VISN CRH specialty leadership and staff to manage the operations of various CRH professionals Responds to inquiries from VA Central Office, VISN, and facility leadership. Provide direct specialized endocrinology care to Veterans via VA Video Connect (VVC), Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT), e-consultation, and quarterly face-to-face (F2F). Clinical duties encompass coordination of clinical services including consultation, assessments, individual appointments, diagnostic test ordering, treatment planning, patient and family support/education, and collaboration with other healthcare providers. The clinician will provide specialty endocrinology care in accordance with their approved scope of practice and all applicable state and/or federal guidelines in support of general medicine and endocrinology. Consistently demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and managing seriously ill, multi-symptomatic patients. Participates in multidisciplinary activities involving treatment plan and discharge of patients. Completes Tele-Endocrinology consults pending resolution for all acquisition sites routing cases to the hub. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards.
