This position is located in Integrated Surgical Services/Inpatient Obstetrics at Phoenix Indian Medical Center. The incumbent performs a variety of nursing care tasks involving standardized procedures that require knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions, treatments and the ability to work independently in completing assignments. Incumbent reports to the Supervisory Clinical Nurse.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing a variety of nursing care tasks; obtaining patients' vital signs and documenting it in the health care record; transporting patients and equipment within the hospital; preparing patients for surgical procedures and test; cleaning surgical equipment's according to guidelines; familiar with patients preoperative and postoperative care; charting documents on the computer; and assisting with the maintenance of unit supplies. OR Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR: Combination of Education and Experience: A combinations of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualification for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Health Technician Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Major Duties: Incumbent assists other Integrated Surgical Services/Inpatient-Obstetrics team members by preparing patients for surgery through the Preoperative Clinic and provides assistance in discharge unit as needed. Prepares patient for examinations, surgery, tests and special procedures required in the preoperative processing of patients for surgery. Obtains vital signs, temperature, heights and weights, body mass index calculations girth measurements, pulmonary function tests and other specific parameters as directed. Performs patient treatment as directed. Collects, prepares and transports specimens to laboratory, obtains EKG's aseptic preparation of lines or equipment, discontinuing peripheral IV's, would dressing, application of external monitoring devices, performs test for Accu-Check, guaiac, urine pH, urine pregnancy tests, documents test results and provides reports to the Registered Nurse. Assists with the maintenance of unit supplies. Participates in maintaining a clean safe environment, observing safety regulations and infection control policies. Initiates CPR and other emergency measures as required. Transport patients and equipment to various areas within the hospital. Assists in preparation for a variety of surgical procedures, positioning and draping patients. Maintains strict confidentiality in regards to patients care medication information and chart contents. Ensures appropriate forms and paperwork have been completed in the medical records for information that relates to the specific procedure or surgery that was performed on the patient. Uses automated office equipment to enter medical information into the computer system.
