Job Description:

This position is in Surgery Service, Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, ID. The Staff Podiatrist reports to the Podiatry Section Chief, who reports to the Chief of Surgery. The incumbent is responsible for independently planning and carrying out assignments, resolving conflicts with clinical staff, and interpreting policy on their own initiative in terms of established objectives.
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs); Light lifting (under 15 lbs); Heavy carrying (45 lbs and over); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (2 hours); Standing (6 hours); Both eyes required; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors; Hearing (aid may be permitted).

He/she will work closely and collaboratively with the medicine, primary care, specialty care and other disciplines. The incumbent may also participate in program development, quality improvement, and evaluation processes. Depending on the specific qualifications of the Podiatrist and the specific position's source funding, the allocation of these duties will vary. Functions or Scope of Assigned Duties include but are not limited to the following: Provides direct patient care in outpatient clinic settings, inpatient units, and operative care. Maintains professional competency, courtesy and flexibility and provide the necessary services of this specialty. Performs all aspects of Podiatry within approved credentials and privileges. Participates in program planning, objectives, policies and standards essential to delivery of quality care. Participates in all aspects of the Podiatry Section. Manages patient workload within available staffing, which may include support of mid-levels, student, and resident education. Documents all clinical encounter consistent within established guidelines. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:30pm Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
