GS-09 GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least one of the following conditions, as defined below: specialized experience, education, or a combination of education and experience. Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing a variety of IT customer support services at the point of computer user/specialist interface which may include installation, configuration, or troubleshooting using a knowledge of network standards and protocols. Education: One of the following types of education: a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields or must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours on one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management. Combining Education and Experience: Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. GS-11 GS-11: To be eligible at the GS 11 level, you must meet one of the following conditions, as defined below: specialized experience, education, or a combination of education and experience. Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing IT customer support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving software/hardware problems; providing user training and assistance on a variety of applications; installing and configuring new or modified hardware and operating systems; and assisting in network monitoring and management for organization-wide account maintenance. Education: One of the following types of education: a PH.D or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields or must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours on one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following type of work and/or tasks: serving as an IT specialist responsible for the configuration, installation, or management of network systems; installing Windows-based servers and maintaining existing servers; establishing metrics to measure and evaluate systems performance; performing network diagnostics and resolving network problems; maintaining network architecture and infrastructure; and installing and maintaining compatible database systems. AND For ALL grade levels: THIS SECTION APPLIES TO ALL GRADE LEVELS: The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined: Attention to Detail: Ensures confidentiality, integrity of systems, networks and data. Customer Service: Plans/schedules installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems application software by working with customers to ensure a smooth installation to minimize problems. Oral Communications: Provides customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training in response to user requirements. Problem Solving: Resolves hardware and software interface and interoperability problems. NOTE: If you are using education to qualify, you MUST provide transcripts to receive consideration. This position is located in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Southern District of Illinois. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team and serve as an Information Technology Specialist for the United States Attorney's Office, Southern District of Illinois. Typical work assignments will include: Providing IT customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, diagnosing issues, and resolving problems; Managing accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment; Maintaining network architecture and infrastructure, to include configuring and maintaining servers, hubs, routers, and switches, as well as monitoring network capacity and performance; Resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems; scheduling the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems, and applications software; Creating basic scripts or code using general knowledge of programming languages and tools; Implementing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, network and data. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
